Energy shares cap gains in FTSE

FXStreet (Mumbai) - The London’s Ftse index trades sideways as gains in the banking firm Barclays PLC were countered by the drop in the energy shares.

The Ftse traded largely unchanged at 6733 levels at the time of writing. The index breadth is positive with an advance-decline ratio of 64:36. Among stocks, Barclays is the top gainers, up 1.72% after the stock prices was upgraded Goldman Sachs to Buy from Neutral. Other major gainers included Anglo American, ITV, Smith&Nephew, and Reckitt Benckiser.

Meanwhile, on the minus side are shares in energy companies, which weakened tracking losses in crude prices ahead of the OPEC meet. Shares in Petrofac are down 3.53%, followed by Royal Dutch Shell PLC, down 1.36%. Tullow Oil fell 1.18%.

Ftse Technical Levels

The index has been restricted in a range of 6709-6765 since the beginning of this week. A break below the lower end of the range shall open doors for a re-test of 6768 levels. Meanwhile, a breach of upper end of the range shall push the index to 6800 levels.

USD/CHF holds above 0.9600

The Swiss franc is losing ground against the US dollar on Thursday and has erased yesterday's gains.
