US durable goods orders stronger than expected in October

FXStreet (London) - New orders for manufactured durable goods in October increased USD1.0bn or 0.4 percent to USD243.8bn, the U.S. Census Bureau announced today.

This increase, up following two consecutive monthly decreases, followed a 0.9 percent September decrease. Excluding transportation, new orders decreased 0.9 percent. Excluding defence, new orders decreased 0.6 percent.

Transportation equipment, also up following two
consecutive monthly decreases, drove the increase, USD2.5bn or 3.4 percent to USD76.3bn.

Today’s number surprised after consensus expectations pointed to a further 0.6 percent decline.
