American equity markets open higher despite missed US GDP

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The US stock market experienced a soft opening Thursday, edging higher despite the recent release of uneven US data. Gross Domestic Product (Annualized) came in at +2.4% in Q1, missing expectations of +2.5%. In addition, the Gross Domestic Product Price Index grew +1.2% in Q1, matching estimates of +1.2%.

Beginning with the indices and composites, the NASDAQ rose +0.24% as it settles in region of 3474.39, up +8.24 points in these moments. In addition, the S&P 500 is trading in positive territory, operating at 1649.32, ascending +1.19 points or +0.07% at the time of writing. Finally, the Dow Jones has moved higher at the opening, trading in the zone of 15315.58, presently +0.08% after a movement of +12.78 points.

EU to lower the tax on financial transactions

According to Reuters, the EU is considering considerably scaling back the financial transactions tax, in the light of the banking sector's and the UK's firm opposition towards the measure.
