Fed's Evans warns against a hasty decision on rates

FXStreet (Łódź) - Chicago Fed president Charles Evans suggested on Wednesday that rate hikes should not be implemented in a rash manner as risks to US inflation and growth still linger.

“We should be exceptionally patient in adjusting the stance of U.S. monetary policy,” the currently non-voting FOMC member stressed. “I favor delaying liftoff until I am more certain that we have sufficient momentum in place toward our policy goals,” he said, adding that the dual mandate could be reached over the next two or three years.

Moreover, Evans pointed out that despite the recent positive employment data, considerable slack still remained in the US labor market, while exports could suffer due to the strengthening of the dollar
